Compiled from public sources, unclaimed. What they mean

Each link
  1. 1. Real personNot stated

    Person · Not stated

Still open: No people capture the data; satellites operated for the EU by ESA.

  2. 2. Captured locallyNot stated

    Camera · Not stated

Still open: Not a signed capture, so none (STANDARD §3). What is stated: Mission, satellite and instrument (MSI optical, C-SAR radar) are named in the product name and metadata. Instrument identity rests on product metadata; nothing signs it at the sensor.

Place · Claimed. Footprint geometry and orbit in product metadata

Still open: Geolocation comes from product metadata and orbit data; not independently attested.

Needs both: the weaker one counts.

  3. 3. Genuine deviceNot stated

    App · Not stated

Still open: No device or app attestation applies; satellites are operated for the EU by ESA. The signed Traceability record is a custody record, not attestation, and is listed under provenance.custody (STANDARD §3, 3.1).

  4. 4. Sealed captureNot stated

    Content · Not stated

Still open: No manipulation detection. Integrity since CDSE registered the product can be checked against the signed Traceability record (provenance.custody), but that is not a capture-time seal: there is no C2PA hard binding.

  5. 5. Known timestampReported

Time · Claimed. Sensing start and end times in product name and metadata

Still open: Sensing time is in product metadata; not independently attested. The trace timestamp shows only when CDSE registered the product.

A time stated, not attested (RFC 3161, a log): Reported.

  6. 6. Tracked in transitClaimed

Custody record (optional field) · Claimed. CDSE's public Traceability service keeps a trace per product: the event (CREATE at registration), a BLAKE3 hash of the product (per-file hashes on most products), the holder (origin cdse_csc@dataspace.copernicus.eu) and the time, signed RSA-SHA256 with an X.509 certificate for trace.dataspace.copernicus.eu. Anyone can fetch the trace without a login, re-hash a download and compare. public evidence

Still open: One documented hop (ground segment registration to you), signed by CDSE itself, not an independent party; it shows the bytes match what CDSE registered, not what the sensor saw. The sampled trace is timestamped 2024-06-19 but its signing certificate (GeoTrust TLS RSA CA G1) was valid only 2023-05-16 to 2024-05-15, so a strict X.509 check at signing time fails; the hashes can still be recomputed. Whether the list of traces is append-only is not documented, and some traces carry only the product hash. Kept at claimed: the trace is signed by the operator itself and the sample's signing certificate had expired before the trace date, so a strict public check fails.

  7. 7. Independently verifiedNot stated

    Cross-check · Not stated

Still open: Not cross-checked by a third party.

  8. 8. Delivered to youNot stated

Delivery receipt (optional field) · Not stated

Notes

About. The EU's Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem serves new Sentinel-1 (C-band radar, works day and night through cloud), Sentinel-2 (13-band optical, 10 m best) and other Sentinel products free, via STAC, OData, S3, Sentinel Hub and openEO, with PUSH/PULL catalogue subscriptions and a public Traceability service whose traces carry signed product hashes.

Price. Free for Copernicus General Users: 12 TB download per rolling 30 days (then slowed to 1 MB/s and 1 connection, not cut off), 4 concurrent connections; Sentinel Hub 10,000 requests and 10,000 processing units per month.

Coverage. No country limit. Sentinel-2 systematically covers land between 56° S and 82.8° N, coastal waters to 20 km, islands over 100 km² and closed seas, not open ocean. Sentinel-1 follows its observation scenario; revisit depends on orbit and there is no tasking.

Timing. Sentinel-1 mission page: near-real-time data 'typically in less than 3 hours'; measured publication lag 55 min (Sentinel-1 GRD) to about 3.6 h (Sentinel-2 L2A); subscriptions notify on each new product.

Licence. Sentinel Data Legal Notice (EU law): free, full and open access; reproduction, distribution, communication to the public, and adaptation, modification and combination are permitted 'in so far as it is lawful'; credit 'Copernicus Sentinel data [Year]' (or 'Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data [Year]'). No warranty; rare limits for security, third-party rights or service disruption. Other portal content is non-commercial only, and the Terms say "ESA and T-Systems do not grant the right to resell or redistribute any information, documents, images or material" (portal-content context, not the Sentinel Legal Notice). Neither AI training nor resale is named, so both stay unstated.
