Each link
  1. 1. Real personNot stated

    Person · Not stated

Still open: Not applicable in the usual sense: captures are made by Umbra's own satellites, not individual people

  2. 2. Captured locallyNot stated

    Camera · Not stated

Still open: Not a signed capture, so none (STANDARD §3). What is stated: Collects carry SAR metadata (platform/satelliteId, range resolution, looks, polarization, grazing, azimuth and squint angles); Umbra publishes satellite IDs with NORAD numbers. SICD/CPHD are standard NGA sensor-model formats. Sensor identity and parameters are operator-asserted metadata; no independent check documented. Not on the C2PA Conforming Products List.

Place · Claimed. Collects carry footprint geometry (WGS 84); GEC is geocoded and ellipsoid-corrected; SICD includes sensor geometry. Umbra states 8 m CE90 absolute geolocation accuracy, and its automated QA includes a geolocation calibration check when calibration sites are collected.

Still open: The 8 m CE90 figure is a system specification, not a per-collect measurement; no public per-collect geolocation report

Needs both: the weaker one counts.

  3. 3. Genuine deviceNot stated

    App · Not stated

Still open: No public description of signing or checksums that would prove delivered files are unmodified Umbra products; the STAC metadata documented has no checksum fields. Downloads come from pre-signed URLs on Umbra's STAC endpoint.

  4. 4. Sealed captureNot stated

Content · Claimed. Limited warranty in the Tasking Terms that delivered Content will 'reasonably be of the area of interest as requested' and meet the Product Guide specs (replace or credit, claims within 30 days). Automated QA before delivery rejects blank, eclipsed or mispointed collects (status CORRUPT, task ANOMALY).

Still open: No public method for detecting manipulated or synthetic SAR imagery; QA checks image quality, not authenticity. Raw CPHD/CRSD lets an expert reprocess, but that is not an integrity guarantee.

Counts only with a stated signing mechanism (C2PA, a manifest).

  5. 5. Known timestampReported

Time · Claimed. STAC datetime is the centre of aperture; start_datetime and end_datetime are the first and last radar pulse, in UTC, inside the tasked window

Still open: How pulse times are measured and checked is not publicly documented, and nothing timestamps them independently

A time stated, not attested (RFC 3161, a log): Reported.

  6. 6. Tracked in transitNot stated

Custody record (optional field) · Not stated

  7. 7. Independently verifiedNot stated

    Cross-check · Not stated

Still open: No documented cross-check against other sensors; a buyer could compare against other SAR or optical providers themselves

  8. 8. Delivered to youNot stated

Delivery receipt (optional field) · Not stated

Notes

About. Operator of a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation that images through clouds and at night. Its Canopy web app and REST API let you check feasibility, task a new Spotlight (5x5 km, 0.25-1 m priced) or Scan capture in a time window you set, track it, and download the delivered collect via STAC. Collects generally arrive 1-4 hours after the window closes. List prices start at $675 per 5x5 km scene at 1 m. Every Canopy registration goes through Umbra's regulatory review. Umbra also runs a public CC BY 4.0 open-data archive, but that is context only: here it is listed for new captures.

Price. From umbra.space/pricing and the Umbra Product Guide. Spotlight 5x5 km, 1 look: 1.0 m $675, 0.5 m $950, 0.35 m $1,750, 0.25 m $3,250; more looks raise it (e.g. 1.0 m 10-look $2,200; 0.25 m 3-look $4,900). Natural Footprint, 1 look: $1,500 (1 m) to $3,750 (0.25 m); processed to 10x10 km at no extra charge on request if the scene is large enough. Extended Dwell 5x5 km $4,750; CSI and SAR video +40% on list price. Scan by strip length: 2 m $1,250-$2,250, 1 m $2,500-$3,500, 0.5 m $4,000 (25-50 km). GEC, SICD, SIDD and JSON metadata are included; CPHD or CRSD add $250 each and switch a 5x5 km Spotlight to Natural Footprint pricing. Bistatic/multistatic: +100%. A 30-day Archive Withhold (keeps the new collect out of Umbra's archive) costs 200% of list price. Pricing is per collect; no minimum order was stated. The Canopy API has no price-quote endpoint. Fees are non-refundable under the Tasking Terms.

Coverage. SAR sees through cloud and works at night. Any point or line can be requested; actual availability comes from the feasibility endpoint. Polar orbit (97.4°), ground range 170-1,100 km either side of the flight path. Restricted Access Areas (an API endpoint and a published GeoJSON list) block tasking: some areas need screening beyond standard KYC (ongoing conflict), some conflict with Umbra priorities, and some are limited by US regulation (e.g. resolution limits over Israel). Spotlight is 5x5 km by default; Natural Footprint is larger (commonly 7.5x11 to 16x10 km) if enabled. Scan swath is 8 km wide.

Timing. Canopy Task Lifecycle Tutorial: collect delivery 'will generally happen 1-4 hours after the associated Task's windowEndAt has passed'. Total time also depends on the tasking window you set and on feasibility; Umbra says tasks can generally be submitted up to three hours before the desired collection time.

Licence. The Satellite Tasking Services Terms and Conditions license all delivered Content under CC BY 4.0: content is 'licensed, not sold', and Umbra keeps all right, title and interest. Attribution is required, with the notice 'SAR-derived data © [YEAR] Umbra Lab, Inc.' on adapted material. Umbra's Licensing & Attribution page says customers may publish, resell at a profit without royalty, and sell derivative works. The Terms override CC BY where they conflict, e.g. US export controls and sanctions (no resale to embargoed countries). The Terms do not mention AI or machine-learning training. Per the Product Guide, new tasked collects enter Umbra's Archive Catalog (which Umbra sells) unless you buy a 30-day Archive Withhold at 200% of list price. Delivered content can be downloaded for 90 days after notice. The separate open-data archive on AWS is also CC BY 4.0.
