    Person · Not stated

Still open: Fixed agency cameras, not people

  2. 2. Captured locallyNot stated

    Camera · Not stated

Still open: Not a signed capture, so none (STANDARD §3). What is stated: Each image comes from a named, fixed camera listed by WSDOT, with an owner field. No capture signing; trust rests on WSDOT and partner-agency operations

Place · Claimed. Cameras have published coordinates, road name, milepost and view direction; WSDOT says images include state route and milepost

Still open: Pan-tilt cameras may point elsewhere than the listed direction

Needs both: the weaker one counts.

  3. 3. Genuine deviceNot stated

    App · Not stated

Still open: No signing of images; nothing shows the image left the camera unmodified

  4. 4. Sealed captureNot stated

Still open: No review of image content

  5. 5. Known timestampReported

Time · Claimed. WSDOT says each image includes the date and time; the time is printed on the image, and the image server sends a Last-Modified header

Still open: The timestamp is an unsigned overlay. Some listed cameras serve stale images (one sampled image was months old), so a recent time must be checked on every image.

Notes

About. Washington State DOT publishes about 1,700 camera feeds (state highways, mountain passes, airports, ferry terminals, and some partner cameras such as Oregon DOT's around Portland), each a still JPEG that refreshes about every 5 minutes with the date and time printed on it. The full camera list with image links is free and keyless as RSS, KML or an ArcGIS feature service, and the images themselves need no key. The Traveler Information REST API adds road, milepost, owner and active-status fields and needs a free access code sent by email.

Price. No charge. The camera list (RSS, KML, ArcGIS) and the images need no key; the REST API needs a free access code sent by email.

Coverage. 1,706 cameras listed on 2026-10-26 across WSDOT regions ER, NC, NW, OL, OS, SC, SW and WA: mostly Washington state highways and passes, plus about 100 airport cameras, about 45 ferry-terminal cameras, and 65 Oregon cameras in the Portland area (region OS, many served from Oregon DOT's tripcheck.com). Some cameras belong to other agencies (CameraOwner, OwnerURL fields), and the REST IsActive field can be false.

Timing. WSDOT ArcGIS camera layer: 'The image is refreshed approximately every 5 minutes and includes details such as date, time, state route number, and milepost number.'

Licence. WSDOT provides travel information 'as-is' and 'as available' and disclaims all warranties of accuracy and timeliness. Images carry a '© WSDOT' overlay and the website footer says 'All Rights Reserved'. The ArcGIS camera service's licence says the feed is intended for 'low volume' use and that WSDOT may cancel or restrict access for any reason. No reuse licence for camera images was found, and nothing names AI training or resale. Some images come from other agencies (e.g. Oregon DOT).
